 To get symbols you need to build with
 {{{
 configure.optflags -O0 -g
 }}}

 and then use the port's -k option to stop it from deleting the source
 files after installation completes. A suitable build command to upgrade
 (rebuild) an already installed port  would be
 {{{
 sudo port -nsk upgrade --force grilo
 }}}

 gdb can be then used in the normal manner.
