 The binaries downloaded from upstream will likely
  - not work on PPC and maybe other older systems
  - not respect the macports configuration values of `build_arch` and
 `universal_arch`
  - not link against the MacPorts versions of zlib, openssl, tiff, libpng,
 libmng and jpeg.
