 This ticket can be closed.  I believe the problem was that I did not run
 'xcode-select --install' command, therefore the Xcode command line tool
 was not accessible, causing it to fail.
 It seems to work fine after I done that.

 $ xcode-select --install
 xcode-select: note: install requested for command line developer tools
 $ cd /opt/local/bin
 $ sudo ./port install subversion-javahlbindings +no_bdb +universal

 --->  Configuring subversion-javahlbindings

 --->  Staging subversion-javahlbindings into destroot
