 Not sure what you mean.

 1. This has already been fixed for `libgcc` and `gcc46` through `gcc5`.
 Are you still having problems installing any of those ports? Have you run
 `sudo port selfupdate` lately to retrieve the latest ports?
 1. Nearly nothing requires `libgcc`, except a few ports that use GCC for
 specific things.
