 Unclear if this is related or not, but vacuuming registry.db may have sped
 things up for me a bit, or may not have. I didn't do a fair test. I'm
 mentioning it just in case.

 To do the vacuum, build from source so you can get macports.sqlext around,
 cd to the directory with registry.db in it, "sqlite3 registry.db", ".load
 /path/to/macports.sqlext", then "vacuum;"
