 Currently, the Portfile has this:

 variant python description {Include python support} {
    depends_lib-append      port:python26
    configure.args-append   --with-python=${prefix}
    patchfiles-append       patch-python.diff
 }
 }}}

 Right now, macports is only supporting python27 and python34, so these 2
 would need their own variants
