 I don't think I quite understand why the runtime dependency is
 undesirable.

 Are you saying that you want to be able to install faustlive-devel (which
 needs faust2-devel), and then deactivate faust2-devel and use faust or
 faust-devel for other purposes while still being able to use faustlive-
 devel?
