 @Petr(1); thanks, I'll keep it in mind for future reports.
 @Petr(2): I assumed that every package should work. I ran into a problem
 which (according to answers elsewhere) should be fixed by installing the
 rather old Numeric. But that's no longer needed (for my original problem),
 so getting Numeric working now has no priority for me.
