 What version of OS X are you using? If 10.9 or later, it is normal for
 there not to be any .la files, and this error message would indicate that
 another port—either the one you're trying to build now, or perhaps one of
 its dependencies—was built on 10.8 or earlier where .la files were still
 used. The first thing I'd try is to
