 I tried uninstalling everything and reinstalling with +gcc47 for hdf5,
 netcdf, netcdf-cxx, and netcdf-fortran, but that did not work.  I think
 the error message at the end was the same.

 Next I uninstalled everything again and reinstalled with +gcc47 and - any
 default variants (which I found using sudo port variants).  Same error
 message.  The main.log file differs only slightly.
