 Could you try reinstall hdfeos5?

 $ sudo port -df uninstall hdfeos5
 $ sudo port -dk install hdfeos5 +mpich
 }}}

 if HE5_EHHEisHE5 exists you can clean the build.
 If not send me main.log of hdfeos5.
