 I had some time to have a look at v2.1.0 .

 As could be expected, that release breaks the wxWidgets 3.0 patches in a
 big way. So what I'll be doing is

 - create an updated patchset for v2.1.0/wxGTk 2.8 and get that to build.
 I'll be using my initial port for that
 - wait a bit to see if Debian or Ubuntu update their v3.0 patches quickly
 so I can create a merged audacity-devel port for v2.1.0
 - if that takes too long, we'll have to discuss whether it'd be OK to have
 a merged file that supports 2 versions. Patchfile management will become a
 bit more interesting in that case ...
