 Possibly of interest: I executed {{{port installed | grep gnuplot}} on my
 workstation (the affected system) and on my notebook. On the workstation I
 see:

 {{{gnuplot @5.0.1_0+aquaterm (active)}}}

 and on the notebook I see:

 {{{gnuplot @5.0.1_0+aquaterm+luaterm+pangocairo+wxwidgets+x11 (active)}}}.

 I am uninstalling gunplot on my workstation, running selfupdate and
 attempting to reinstall. I will update this comment with the results.
