 Confirmed.  Rather than try and fix the variant logic, I'm going to try
 and rewrite the port to remove the +finch and +finch_only variants
 entirely and add a finch subport instead.  This should make things easier
 to understand and hopefully will produce the desired result -- a finch
 binary that will install in parallel with pidgin and libpurple if
 requested. Thanks for the ticket.
