 How can I do that? It's removal is an automatic built into the X server…

 Since the socket still existed after sleep this morning, I launched
 XQuartz 2.7.7 (xorg-server 1.17.4), xorg-server @1.17.4_1. The first time
 it found that socket and tried to open windows on :1:

 {{{
 pete 60 /\ pstree -w -p 19623
 -+= 00001 root /sbin/launchd
  \-+- 19565 pete /bin/tcsh -c /opt/local/bin/startx
    \-+- 19574 pete /bin/sh /opt/local/bin/startx
      \-+- 19621 pete xinit /Users/pete/.xinitrc -- /Users/pete/.xserverrc
 :1 -dpi 133 -auth /Users/pete/.serverauth.19574
        \-+= 19622 pete sh /Users/pete/.xserverrc :1 -dpi 133 -auth
 /Users/pete/.serverauth.19574
          \--- 19623 pete X -dpi 133 -nolisten tcp
 }}}

 without success, no X client (GNU Emacsen, gkrellm) appeared. And also no
 /tmp/.X11-unix/X1 socket. When I quit, it at least successfully deleted
 /tmp/.X11-unix/X0. On next launch all went fine.
