 I get exactly the same error on a clean install.

 sudo port install octave +gui

 (I also had to manually install ghostscript-fonts-other-6.0.tar.gz but
 that's a different problem).

 OSX 10.10.2, MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014)
