 The configure command aborts on this line with "Abort trap":

 I think this means that one of the commands executed by configure to probe
 your system crashed.

 I don't know if / how this can be fixed ... this issue is not present on
 the OS X 10.10 I have.

 If you absolutely need sextractor on this old OS X 10.6 machine, maybe you
 can try building sextractor from source and if the same error appears ask
 in the sextractor forum if there's a workaround / fix?
