 I was having the same issue on Yosemite last night.  Tried reinstalling
 several times, cleaned the install etc, and always got the same error as
 above.  This morning I wanted to reproduce this to add to this bug report,
 and the installation (after clean) worked fine.  I have both automaker and
 automake17 installed.  If you would like me to check something on my
 system to help debug, please let me know.  I am on a fresh installation of
 Yosemite (new computer).
