 Sorry about that lack of notice.

 So, I tested your hypothesis! OpenCV does actually support Debug builds
 and I was able to build a debug version with debug symbols from a checkout
 of 3.0.0 using `cmake -DCMAKE_BUILD_TYPE=Debug`

 I'll see if I can't get a log from the Macports build.
