Comment:

 gramps works fine for me.

 gramps requires a working X11 server.  Your error indicates that either
 you don't have one installed or it's not properly configured. Current
 versions of OS X no longer bundle this functionality.

 You can either install port xorg-server or download XQuartz from the Apple
 web site.  Note that once this software is installed you need to log out
 and log in again to get it initialized.
