 I would strongly advice you to avoid stealth updates at any point of the
 process. This is very bad practice as you put into circulation tarballs,
 which appear to have the same release version, but have different content
 or checksum. In particular, this creates issues with packaging systems
 (like MacPorts) and mirrors. So please always bump the version part of the
 name when changing anything.

 In this concrete case, where the the packages is not yet released, it is
 probably indicated to go for a `-devel` port first, and provide the stable
 port only after release of the software. I usually test release candidates
 with the `-devel` port as well, because any `rc` postfix would require to
 bump the epoch later.
