 Thanks for the report.

 Note that here we only maintain the port of this software not cartopy
 itself. It is somewhat difficulties to evaluate your fix. If we need to
 apply a patch, it would be very helpful to completely understand what
 change makes this fix necessary and if the patch is appropriate.

 Probably your fix would be best handled upstream and we then can update to
 the new release. You may reference the report here, so we can understand
 how to handle this in the meantime.
