 OK. I searched for the term, but misunderstood other explanations.

 I tried some of my ports that already use out-of-source builds and they
 kept working without modifications after changing the PortGroup. (On the
 other hand that is bad: we could then easily ignore the changes or or
 forget reverting back the existing hacks.)
