 As long as I'm able to sort and find the pictures according to their face
 tags via MacOS Finder... But a database migration tool would be rather
 helpful. Am I wrong, or hasn't such a tool been part of digiKam 3 to
 migrate SQL to sqlite2?

 simple backup dump of the old file and a (perhaps partial) reimport into
 the new one would solve the issue.

 Great hint! My first attempt: I downloaded the shell script from
 Sqlite.org and tried:

 {{{
 sqlite /Users/Me/Pictures/digikam4.db .dump | sqlite3
 /Users/Me/Pictures/NEW.DB
 }}}

 but it did not succeed.

 Yes, it's in my home directory/pictures and seems untouched as far.

 application...

 Don't worry :-)
