 I can reproduce this with the archive from the buildbot. If I build it
 locally it works as expected. I will try to force a rebuild on the
 buildbot.

 Maybe readline behaves differently based on the locale settings during
 build? Although I tried local builds with `LC_ALL=en_US.utf8` and
 `LC_ALL=C`, both work as expected.
