 A lot of proxies just allow http (and not native git://) - as is the case
 for my work proxy.
 Is it possible to change the git URL from git://{} to http://{}, so that a
 configuration of the http proxy can take care of it?
 e.g. /opt/local/bin/git clone http://cgit.freedesktop.org/poppler/test/

 Proxying git:// needs something like http://www.emilsit.net/blog/archives
 /how-to-use-the-git-protocol-through-a-http-connect-proxy/, which seems
 like an overkill.
