 I'm seeing the same issue as in comment:2 with the following version:

 poppler @0.33.0_0
 }}}

 The variant I wanted was:

 {{{
 gdal @1.11.2_2+expat+framework+geos+hdf4+hdf5+poppler+jasper (active)
 }}}

 (There is a separate issue affecting GDAL with HDF5. I had to remove both
 to get GDAL to install.)

 Port is version 2.3.3, on OS X 10.10.3.
