 I Googled this error message and found [http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html
 /bug-gnulib/2011-07/msg00460.html bug report] (for another project and OS)
 which says that on some systems, strings.h is not self-contained, and it
 is necessary to `#include <sys/types.h>` first. Can you try making that
 change, wherever strings.h is `#include`d? My Tiger machine is currently
 busy...
