 Today, 25% of the way through, although my script was still running, it
 was failing to write to its logfile, repeating the error "Result too
 large". The logfile was not too large, and there was enough disk space.
 This, combined with the still unexplained corruption of the MacPorts
 registry that began this ticket, makes me wonder about the integrity of
 the filesystem. Multiple runs of Disk Utility showed no errors. I have
 stopped my script for now and will run other disk verification programs
 later.
