 gmp tries to build itself for the particular processor of the host
 machine.[[BR]]
 I seem to remember some warning that virtual machines sometimes interfere
 with this process, but I can not find the reference.

 gmp was recently updated.[[BR]]
 By any chance did that fix the problem?

 Unfortunately, I have no access to any ppc machine to test test any of
 this.
