 Please update mpv to the latest version (0.11.0 as of this writing) to
 enable videotoolbox hardware decoding.  I don't know if this is a bug or a
 feature, but vda & videotoolbox need to be enabled in both ffmpeg and mpv
 in order for this to work properly.  See the following upstream bug for

 I can confirm the bug (feature?) on my system.  I had the same problem and
 had to rebuild ffmpeg + mpv with vda & videotoolbox enabled for hwdec to
 work properly.
