 Given there have been no insights or suggestions on how to fix python
 w/libedit issues, I've attached a proposed patch that links python against
 readline -- it is done as a default variant +readline, so it should be
 easy to un-do later once the underlying issues are identified and
 resolved.

 Any objections to committing this?
