Comment:

 The problem is that the upstream HTTPS server cannot be used with OpenSSL
 0.9.8 anymore, as the handshake fails. As confirmed on IRC, the system
 used was OS X 10.8, on which system libcurl still uses this OpenSSL
 version from the system.

 I guess this is the same reason why the fetch fails. There is not much we
 can do about it, despite moving our mirroring infrastructure to a more
 recent SSL/TLS implementation.
