 FWIW, I also see this problem (the recursive confdir3) on a PPC 10.5.8
 system. trying to upgrade findutils from 4.4.2_1 to 4.6.0_0.  Possibly
 relevant: this MacPorts installation uses a non-default install prefix and
 is on a case-sensitive HFS file system.
