 I just installed gcc5 on Snow Leopard without issue. I do have my Snow
 Leopard systems set up with the
 <https://trac.macports.org/wiki/LibcxxOnOlderSystems> variant, if that
 makes any difference to the process.

 I did notice that your build log indicated gcc-5.3.0.tar.bz2, whereas I
 just built gcc-5.4.0.tar.bz2, so perhaps you haven't updated macports in a
 while?

 As a suggestion, you might consider trying to
 {{{
 sudo port clean gcc5
 sudo port selfupdate
 sudo port update outdated
 }}}
 and then try gcc5 again.
