Comment:

 You're not meant to use root; you're meant to use `sudo` from your normal
 admin user account.

 The installer is currently designed to modify the PATH in the shell
 startup file of only one user: the normal admin user who ran the MacPorts
 installer. If you want other users' PATHs modified, you have to do it
 yourself.
