 The problem is that we can't make python dependent (recursively) on py-
 readline, and it was installing broken software which prompted users to go
 find out what was going on and then try to fix it.

 Yes, it requires a reinstall; for many users this will be a binary install
 (from packages.macports.org/python27). Still better than installing
 something that we've known has been broken for months and just figure
 users will search out the solution.

 I'm all for moving it back to libedit once the combination is working.
 (Where working means not broken for interactive users.)
