Comment:

 The message is correct. At least one Fortran variant must be selected.
 `port variants py27-scipy` will give you a list of available variants.

 Please first run `sudo port selfupdate` and see if that resolves the
 issue. There was a problem where users who had previously selected the
 now-deleted gcc48 variant were not automatically upgraded to the gfortran
 variant. That was fixed last month in r145149.
