 After several days of no response on this board, I had to reboot my Mac
 for some other reasons.  After the reboot I tried again, and voila! serf1
 installed like a charm and I was able to get nmap running again.  That's
 not how things are supposed to work on Unix-based systems, but at least
 it's a workaround.
