Had a similar issue on an El Capitan VM just now, although not with port
{{{expat}}}. Calling {{{sudo port install kdenlive}}} would try to install
all of {{{kdenlive}}}'s dependencies but '''always fail to install the
first of them'''...
Then I manually installed a few of those failed ports ({{{dbus, jpeg,
tiff, lcms2, libmng}}}) until I got sick of it and simply copied the whole
long residual list of {{{kdenlive}}}'s deps into the console:

That works fine up to now...
I never saw such behaviour happening before with MacPorts. And, I don't
think that it is caused by me running {{{LittleSnitch}}}.
