 I believe that there is already a good temporary solution -- roll back --
 and a good long-term solution -- bisect and submit an upstream patch.  In
 my view, flipping to readline would be akin to sweeping the problem under
 the rug.

 And causes new problems. Specifically, this change caused graphviz to no
 longer be considered distributable, because it eventually depends on
 python27, and readline's GPL license conflicts with graphviz's EPL
 license.

 What is the status of getting this issue resolved "properly"? Is there an
 upstream bug report? (The only upstream bug report linked in this ticket
 so far is closed.)
