Not sure. Note that `sudo port selfupdate` does two things:
1. It updates MacPorts base. The message you showed above shows that
MacPorts base was already up to date, so this part of selfupdate did
nothing in your case.
2. It updates the ports collection. Perhaps your ports collection was
either out of date or even nonexistent, and selfupdate updated it.
