 I would be very grateful for some feedback and testing of #50768.

 It's not providing the proper for this particular problem, but it avoid
 the most common mode of failure. I would like to commit the changes as
 soon as possible, so that I can add further wxWidgets ports (like
 wxWidgets 3.1) and changes.
