 Hm, perhaps I was too indirect.  I object to flipping over to readline.  I
 believe that there is already a good temporary solution -- roll back --
 and a good long-term solution -- bisect and submit an upstream patch.  In
 my view, flipping to readline would be akin to sweeping the problem under
 the rug.
