Comment:

 The error message is not as obvious as it should be.  +applespell is a
 default variant and so will be added to any variants that you select. It,
 therefore, must be explicitly disabled.

 To correctly install enchant for inkscape (or inkscape-devel) use
 {{{
 sudo port install enchant +aspell -applespell
 }}}
