 ... which could potentially avoid Portfile errors and warnings right from
 the start.

 * Errors should lead to a strict cancellation of the commit.
 * Warnings might be ignored, but one could also think of some interactive
 feedback loop - regarding how to proceed - in order to motivate users to
 adhere to Portfile guidelines.
