 I'll update #46701.

 Someone mentioned they might be able to spin an installer that doesn't
 have this dependency. Is that still possible? I'd love to get this taken
 care of even if it exists outside of MacPorts while the rest of the
 community works on removing that dependency. That bug has been neglected
 for a while (and for good reason, it's a very old OS) but it's important
 to me. I'd gladly pay for a fix at this point.
