 Well, if there's any progress in this area, I vote to use gtk3 as a proof
 of concept test case. It's really blocking any progress with current GNOME
 ports for the ppc folks.
 I really don't understand the failure mode reported here but I see lots of
 similar reports on other builds when googling.  So it's not uncommon. I'm
 assuming it's a tool chain issue but it bothers me that the previous
 version builds fine and this one doesn't.  So it makes me think there
 might be a critical code change that, if identified, could be worked
 around.  Or maybe it's chaos theory in action.  Just musing.
