 FYI - on 10.4 Tiger PPC:

 $ sudo port -v install gtk3 configure.compiler=macports-gcc-6
 }}}

 results in success
 {{{

   gtk3 @3.22.1_0+x11 (active) platform='darwin 8' archs='ppc'
 }}}

 without touching the portfile.
