 Thanks - just tried again, same error.  Same error when trying expat
 directly and then also with other dependencies (tried xfig, spidermonkey,
 ncurses).  Followed #50986 and I can successfully ping
 packages.macports.org so might not be completely the same?  Will try
 uninstalling and reinstalling macports.
